Don Osman 68 PA 8:02:56 In the middle of the 50K race a thunderstorm with heavy rains drenched the runners. It was the heaviest rain that this drought-plagued region has seen since early spring. The clouds were so dark that it was virtually impossible to see the trail where it passed through dense spruce plantations. I fell heavily twice , tripping on roots I couldn't see. What I would have given for a flashlight! Fortunately the storm passed in about 15 minutes. Descending the "Monster Hill" to the finish on the slick clay trail was treacherous. I could see numerous skid marks from previous runners and avoided these spots. Descent without falling would have been impossible if I hadn't been able to grab the trees along the trail. - Joe DabesHome
