MLK 50K 2001

The 2001 running of the MLK 50K will be held on Saturday January 13th in
Lowell, Oregon starting at 9 AM. This is a no fee, low key, might be aid
(this year there was water at 9 and 22 miles), no shirt, lots of fun event
partially on a brand new trail. The trail is an out and back going up from
the resevoir (which is visible through much of the run) to the ridgeline
and staying there before returning.

This annual traveling show ended up on a newly constructed portion of the
Eugene to Pacific Crest Trail, partially because the trail is new and needs
to be inducted and also to introduce this little known and slowly being
completed trail to the ultra community.

The inaugural event, which took place this past January featured extreme
winds (60 MPH - dropped a VERY large tree between two runners) and fun on
the Wildwood Trail in Portland's Forest Park. We expect to have similar
amounts of fun this year, but are unsure of what the weather will offer us.
It is a low elevation (topping out at about 2560' up from a starting
elevation of 940') and thus we can hope to see very little, if any, snow.
